Meet the Founder.
Hello and Welcome to The Runway to Hope Foundation. I am pleased to have the honor of providing those necessary Anti-Bullying services to students around the country. The situation of School Bullying has become a major social issue, following the deaths of teens around the world. My personal story does not differ from many that you hear from local to mass media.
Having grown up in a small town, the odds of being bullied for anything from ethnic differences to sexual orientation were at an increased risked due to the lack of interest of young people in Creative & Performing Arts.
I was an actor. This is what I strived for in my life because it made me the happiest I could possibly be. From the ages of 8 (3rd Grade) to 10 (Fifth Grade)changes in my peers’ perception towards my theatrical work created utter chaos in my educational life. I was bullied: EVERY SINGLE DAY. I was constantly called a "Homo," a "Fag," "Girly," and my personal favorite "Roberta." It saddened me because at that age, I was not even aware of sexual orientation, nor do I believe ANY child should.
Eventually, I had the courage to inform my parents of the bullying. They immediately contacted the Elementary School Principal, who told my mother that she could do nothing about "kids being kids." The school did not pursue any further action. Throughout this period of my life,to one having low self-esteem & thoughts of inferiority. Please remember, these events happened in ELEMENTARY school, during the most formative years in a child’s life.
By 7th grade, the terrorizing became worse to the point that Physical and Cyber Bullying had come into play. Books being knocked out of my hands and being physically shoved into lockers were a daily occurrence. Eventually. it became so awful that I finally retaliated when a peer took it too far. The end result was my expulsion from school and no action taken on the aggressor.
Faculty members of every school are responsible for providing a safe environment for every student. Education is supposed to be based on the premise of fostering the natural abilities of ANY student.
The Runway to Hope Foundation will, continue to strive for Equality through Creativity every single day. I have made it my goal to work towards creating and providing new school programs that are innovative and effective to make a significant and long term impact in achieving these goals.
